| #2iserithJul 27, 2014 13:28:41 | Probably with Feats and/or Backgrounds. |

First thing I said was "Screw balancing it with the regular game! I just need to give it internal balance." So I gave everybody a bonus feat at 1st level that can be used for Bloodline, a Feat, or an Ability Score Increase. Yes, this breaks it past the regular assumed power level. I just need to finish converting the powers, and stop messing around with the domain management system. Because of the power level involved, I would not suggest using backgrounds. |

In 3E Eberron, taking the Least Dragonmark feat gave you a repeatable minor power, and led to the dragonmark feat tree that could unlock significantly more powers as you leveled. That led to a lot of agonizing (in my mind) about how much this was going to break 5E. Then I read the actual fluff text for dragonmarked houses in the 3E and it said something like, "Most members have no actual magical powers. Some few exhibit abilities, but they generally only appear after traumatic events or other outside stimuli." I then realized I could just make being a member of a Dragonmarked House a Background, and modify the "get a spell" feats to fit the flavor of the dragonmarks. What's the actual fluff description of Birthright Bloodlines? |
