#1 irongyrfalcon Jul 27, 2015 20:27:00	I ran into a question while I was playing my rogue last night.   In the previous round I carved up the BBEG of the adventure with my daggers, it was awesome. I was going to do the same thing in the current round. I was going to attack once (I was holding two daggers but this time I was only going to use one of them.) and then disengage using Cunning Action for my bonus action. However, the DM revealed after I had resolved the attack that the BBEG had only 1 hit point left. I had not disengaged yet. I still had my off-hand attack available this round as I hadn't used my bonus action yet. The DM allowed me to use my off-hand attack and we won. It was awesome. But the question is: Do I have to announce that I'm using both of my weapons before I begin the attack or can I make the primary attack and then decide if I want to use the off-hand weapon attack as my bonus action?
#2 jaelis Jul 27, 2015 20:53:54	You can wait until after your main attack to decide, nothing in the rules says otherwise that I recall.
#3 OoftaMeg Jul 27, 2015 20:54:19	You can use your bonus action at any time during your turn, unless specifically stated otherwise. I frequently hold off on my secondary attack until I know if I've hit and what the results are.
#4 lawrencehoy Jul 27, 2015 22:44:49	I agree with the others.   It's like the rogue was wary of the BBEG, not knowing that he was close to his demise, and planned to spring to safety after getting in a good hit; then, that hit drops the BBEG to his knees, visibly shaken and close to finished, and the rogue uses split second reflexes to change his intended action to: "go for the kill".
