| #1CaliMafiosoMar 02, 2015 15:41:51 | This got me thinking about my Monk...
First question, do bonus action attacks get damage modifiers?
Second Question, if they DO get the modifier, then does each Flurry of Blows attack get the modifier?
Thanks |

But if something says make an attack (with no extra qualifiers), then you make an attack using the normal attack rules. If it says cast a spell, you cast a spell with the normal spell rules. So just read the text of the ability granting the the bonus action, and apply it normally with the rest of the rules unless it says otherwise. |
| #10SkullKingXMar 03, 2015 8:30:06 | Think of this as a balancing issue. The monk's primary damage comes from being able to attack as many times as possible and do as much damage. A low level monk using a ki point to do 3 attacks (1 weapon attack and 2 unarmed attacks) using up an action and a bonus action.
If a level 3 monk has a dex of 16 and uses a quarterstaff, then damages are 1d8+3, 1d4+3, and 1d4+3 (Min. 12, Avg. 20, Max. 25) Those damages are similar to a level 3 cleric throwing out an inflict wounds spell (3d10 Min. 3, Avg. 18, Max. 30). The difference lies in the fact the monk had to hit each time and still can't do as much damage maximum vs a cleric using up one spell. The cleric can cast 4 first level spells and only used one action, while the monk is limited to 3 ki points and used up its bonus action as well.
The monk is not as over powered as it may seem. They are meant to be whirlwinds of damage.
I believe it does because two weapon fighting ( "When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand...." pg. 195 PHB) would get a second attack on the second bonus action. Since two weapon fighting is already not as strong as used to be, but more accurate, this seems correct. I can see how it can be exploited, like a fighter/monk (ki points), of fighter/cleric of war (war priest). |
