I understand that you only have one reaction per turn, but how many bonus action can you use?

On your turn, you may only take up to one Bonus Action.

As said, you just get the one. Even if you have different feats, class features, spells, etc. that you could use as a bonus action, you can only pick one to use a turn.

Basically:

Action

Move

Bonus Action

Free Item Interaction(DM dependent)

Reaction(usually on someone else's turn)

Can you use your action for a bonus action?

The question came from a bard who wished to spend his turn moving and using two bonus actions... Other editions have had the concept of downgrading your action, I was hoping for a cite about it not being allowed other than just the lack of a rule allowing it.

I have adjudicated allowing an action to be used as a bonus action, by a bard. It is by no means RAW or even RAI. But in the role of DM you can make whatever call you want, as long as it serves to make the game fun for the table.

I agree with Slyck. To me, a bonus action is kind of like the old "swift action" and I don't see any reason why you couldn't forego your action to take another bonus action, even though it is against the rules for bonus action. For example, Player A activates boots of speed(bonus action), moves, and instead of taking the attack action, can Hunters Mark a target, which is a bonus action. I may house rule this but I would be interested to hear if there are any other issues with allowing this as an alternate rule

The only issue I can think of is that you could use a powerful magic weapon in your off hand, then use your 2 bonus actions to attack with it twice. Spells are already limited to 1/turn by fiat, so that shouldn't be an issue. I really can't think of any other bonus actions that would be an issue, or aren't already available as actions (like Cunning Action).

I wouldn't make a general house rule. I'll jist adjudicate it the few times it comes up.
