Hey there.

Just started a campaign, that probably take the heroes to level 20, so my doubt here is...

asuming a warrior, and a 30 in dex.

Dex 30, With studded leather, he would end at CA 22 and +10 attack and damage

Dex 30, With HalfPlate, he would end at CA 17 and +10 attack and damage
Str 30,    With Plate, he would end at CA 18 and +10 attack and damage.

hey, even at Dex 22 it would be the same...

is there somethinng I'm missing? Maybe each "+1" on medium/heavy armor should add twice the enhancement bonus to the base CA?...so asuming the same guy, is now using a +2 armor and has 30 in dex.

With a studded leather +2, he would end at CA 24

With a HalfPlate +2, he would end at CA 23
With a Plate+2, he would end at CA 24

You can't easily get a 30 Dex...

Dex normally maxes out at 20, which is a +5 modifier.

I know you "normally" can't reach 30, but with tomes and luck...you may.

I guess CA is balanced asuming "normal" stats

You need magic items to get stats above 20.

A Fighter or Paladin with the Defensive fighting style wearing non-magical Plate and Shield will max out at 21 AC. Most Clerics will max out at 20 AC depending on domain.

A Monk or Barbarian wearing no armor or shield and 20's in relevant stats will max out at 20 AC. A Barbarian can add a shield for 22 AC.

Assuming 20s in relevant stats, no multiclassing and no feat/racial support, a Warlock, Sorcerer and Wizard will max out at 18 AC using Mage Armor or class specific feature (Draconic Bloodline).

Valor Bards and Druids will max out at 19 AC depending on class specific choices. Lore Bards and Rogues will max out at 17 AC.

Yep.

If you use the Epic rules or throw in lots of power magical items or Artifacts then the game does indeed kinda break a bit. Not sure there has been an edition where this hasn't been a case. As a DM use them with caution.

Cap is 20 for Ability Scores in PHB except 20th Level Barbarians have Primal Champion to raise STR and CON to 24

Things I can find that break the DEX 20 cap from the DMG

Manual of Quickness of Action: From my reading raises your DEX cap to 22. I don't believe using another can raise the cap futher but open to interpreation.

Blessing can raise cap to: 22

Deck of Many things: Star card increase ability score by 2 to a maximum of 24.

Artifact Major Benefical properties can raise to a cap of 24.

Epic Boons/Alternative Epic Boon rules allow Maximum of 30.

I doubt many of those will feature in most people's games.

Am I the only one that doesn't see a problem here? I just see evidence that investing more in your AC results in having better AC.

Think his concern is that light armor outstrips the others. But yeah if you have godlike dex, you get hard to hit. Need to compare to high epic armors etc.

Sure, but if you were playing an epic game like this, you might reasonably ask for ways to invest in your heavy armor too. And why not? There should probably be an epic boon to improve your armor effectiveness somehow, and certainly artifact armors that are super good. But its also obvious that the game is not centered on that level of play and you'd need to put that kind of thing in for yourself.
