We had a situation at the table last Sunday.
We had a player who moved away from a monster without disengaging so received an opportunity attack. The monster was standing next to a player with Sentinel. The DM ruled that since the monster did an opportunity attack instead of a normal attack, the Sentinel attack couldn't occur in this case.
The player moving away didn't have the Sentinel feat.
Is this correct ? I would expect Sentinel to trigger on any sort of attack that doesn't include the Sentinel player (and assuming he still has his reaction).
Thanks,

3 persons fighting eachother with sentinal would resolve themselves in 1 round... |

before or after the attack? |

take a rogue with the sentinel feat. take a Barbarian with the bear totem level 14 or a fighter/paladin with the protection fighting style
So the ennemy need to choose between:
- disavantage to hit the rogue (who could then use uncanny dodge to reduce the damage by half) - or a sneak attack damage if they attack the barbarian (who will also take half damage from rage) |

| (Reply to #14)Darthy1980 | In any case, I think the consensus is that the Sentinel can make an attack on the monster that hit the player in this case. Thanks for the clarifications everyone, I'll let our DM know.
Thanks,
