#1 Kor2015 Sep 13, 2015 21:33:07	The main reason I ask this, is that I noticed that there is no longer a Magic Fang spell.  I wanted to see if my Ranger's beast companion could gain this benefit via a spell.  I've seen some debates on the forums as to whether Magic Weapon can be applied to unarmed attacks.  (Some people have indicated that unarmed strike may be a type of weapon as it is included as a simple weapon on the Weapon Table.)  I am uncertain if there has been an "official" ruling on this?  My interest of course, is that if Magic Weapon does affect unarmed strikes then it should also affect natural attacks such as bite.  The next dilemma though, is that even if Magic Weapon can affect an animal, it is not on the Ranger spell list, so this would require some multiclassing.   Has there been any clarification on whether you can gain the benefits of the Magic Weapon spell on unarmed attacks?
#2 TomeOfTricksterBlood Sep 13, 2015 23:56:52	In my opinion and I feel though it may not be RAW (as one could debate it is an invalid target) I feel a dm more often would agree that it is a decent use. It is the same effect if you were to cast it on a hireling's blade after all just instead a pets fang or claw (etc). The only stipulation I would make is you must specificly one specific type of attack to be effected. If you were to cast it on a panther's claws it's bite would be uneffected and so on. There would also be certain situations were the dm would feel some attacks may not count enough so while I can see it being possible to work I can't say in every case would it work.
#3 Undrhil Sep 14, 2015 1:06:06	Unarmed Strikes are no longer listed on the weapon table as of the PHB errata (check the website for that.)  Instead, they have changed the melee attack description to include that you can take an unarmed strike instead of a melee weapon attack.  Also, everyone is proficient with unarmed striikes, even Wizards.
#4 lawrencehoy Sep 14, 2015 1:13:53	First, the official PHB Errata has removed Unarmed Strike from the Weapons Table.   Second, there was some clarification that claws and bites are not Unarmed Strikes; they are "natural weapons". The only thing I could find, to include in this post, was this tweet from Mike Mearls; so, take that as you will.   All that being said, it definately opens up the possibility for the DM ro rule that you can use Magic Weapon to enchant "natural weapons".

#7 Kor2015 Sep 15, 2015 17:45:08	Thanks for some of the rules clarifications.  It sounds like this situation may not be addressed specifically by the rules, but it does seem reasonable to allow magic weapon to be applied to 1 type of natural weapon.
