Casting Polymorph on yourself?

My warlock just reached level seven. As he is obsessed with changing form and deceiving people (constantly using the Mask of Many Faces invocation, also having a Charlatan background and the Actor feat) I was thinking the Sculptor of Flesh would be an obvious choice for his new invocation, but the more I think about it, the more I realize it may only be useful for polymorphing other characters.

Polymorph requires concentration to maintain. The polymorphed creature is unable to cast spells. Does this also make it impossible to maintain a spell? If a polymorphed creature is able to maintain the spell, is the concentration check based on the caster's constitution at the time of casting or on the creature's constitution check at the time the check is made?

you can polymorph yourself and maintain concentration. And if you polymorph into a creature, you use it's con save for concentration.

P o l y m o r p h
4th-level transmutation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a caterpillar cocoon)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour
.....

The transformation lasts for the duration, or until the target drops to 0 hit points or dies. The new form can be any beast whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target’s (or the target’s level, if it doesn't have a challenge rating). The target’s game statistics, including mental ability scores, are replaced by the statistics of the chosen beast. It retains its alignment and personality

........

Can you really turn into any CR lower than you?  IE if you are level 20, you could potentially turn into a CR 19 beast, if there was one.

You could also turn into a CR 20 beast at level 20, if there was such a creature.

Ok, now I feel like an idiot. I always thought polymorph was used only on other creatures...*face palm

My question is the spell states your MENTAL ability scores become that of the animal and yet the personality remains the same. So basically you forget who you are if you turn into a wolf but if you liked cheese you are a wolf who likes cheese. The mental ability score change confuses me. Why would anyone polymorph them self in that case. Did they mean PHYSICAL abilities become the animals? Because that is a big difference in wording.

-sigh- I liked how Druids were handled in 4e.  You always kept all your own stats, but you could change into Beast Form any time you wanted.  It was ssoooo much easier to keep track of...

Thaenok - How to really mess up: Polymorph yourself into a T-Rex (or something), lose your mind but gain a huge +CONmod, and proceed to attack / eat the nearest thing around - your friends.  With no way for anybody to break your Concentration, you can continue rampaging for an hour.  Then you polymorph back to normal and feel like a (lonely) idiot.

But it is hard not to read it like that. I mean I love changing shape but polymorph really makes one reconsider using it. Not to mention True Polymorph where you would have the mind of an animal and forget to change yourself back before time was up and poof! You are permanently whatever you changed to. Luckily there is alter self and shape change that don't confuse the issue.
