#1 Delazar78 May 26, 2015 23:19:04	PHB and DMG don't seem to mention this, but a fellow player claims you can't cast spells with the V component underwater... Is this true? I mean, if I'm under the effect of a Water Breating spell, maybe the sound of my voice doesn't spread, but I'm still "pronouncing" the words.   Anything else I should take into account being a spellcaster during an underwater adventure? Apart from the fact that all targets in water have resistance to fire? Probably Lightning will be more effective underwater?
#2 lawrencehoy May 27, 2015 0:11:28	The rules for Components and Spellcasting specifically state that Verbal components require "particular combinations of sound, with specific pitch and resonance". So, I'd say being underwater hinders that, regardless of whether you can breath water or not; unless the spell originates from an underwater culture, where the sounds, pitch, and resonance account for underwater differences. It's a DM call though, at any particular table.
#3 mellored May 27, 2015 6:31:36	Water breathing spell specificly states that "Affected creatures also retain their normal mode of respiration." i.e. you breath (and make sounds), normally.  Rather then gaining gills.     I wouldn't negate several entire classes for an underwater adventure.

#5 QwertyAzerty May 27, 2015 7:57:48	I would say that unless the spell specificilly specify that the target need to hear you, you are doing the vocalization for the weave which permuate the entire world, even underwater. so even if the sounf exist only in your troath, the sound will still affect the weave since the weave is EVERYWHERE.   If you say that spellcaster cannot cast spell if the sound do not travel, how far does the sound need to travel in order for the spell to work? in order to cast fireball 150ft away, does people 150ft away from you need to hear you casting the spell?   So I would say that as long as the song exist in your throat then you can cast the spell (again unless the spell specifically say target need to hear you like many bard spell does)
