Casting while adjacent...

So, I can't seem to find a clearification in either the 5e PHB or DMG, but in reguards to concentration while casting a spell of any kind while you are adjacent to a hostile creature, what happenes?

 

I'm inclined to think one of two things occure; either the hostile creature makes an attack of opportunity on you as a reaction, and your spell fails if you don't make a con save DC of 10 or half damage, whichever is higher-  Or you just make a con save DC10, failing to cast if you fail the save.

 

I can't find a clear ruling on this anywhere.  I'd rather use the rules in the book, but if it's left to the DM's descretion, then I'll just roll with the DC 10 con save or fail the casting (what I used last time this came up, just to keep consitancy.)

PHB195 and PHB205 say a similar thing: casting a ranged spell is at disadvantage on the attack roll when within 5 ft. of an enemy that isn't incapacitated. Beyond that, there are no restrictions on casting in combat. Concentration is only an issue if the caster takes damage, as per PHB203.

Yo.  Thanks a lot.  This really helps, I won't ask for a concentration CON check anymore like I did the last time, I'm sure my players will like that was well.
