I am playing a druid and want to know. Can I change a known spell without taking a long rest? Not all spells just one or two. What is the rule for that?

so at level 1 with 16 wisdom you can prepare 4 spell per day. prepare 3 spell (healing word, entangle and faerie fire) and leave one unprepare.
Then at anytime you can take 1 minute per spell level to prepare that spell. Yes taking 1 minute in the middle of combat to prepare animal friendship might be difficult and risky, but taking 1 minutes to prepare detect poison before a meal can be fairly easy. |

You could do that in 3e, but not here - you prepare spells immediately after a long rest, and cannot do so any other time, even if some space is left "unprepared". The "1 minute per spell level" bit describes replacing a prepared spell immediately after a long rest; it does not change when you can prepare spells. |

If I chooses to ask for two of my granted spells and wait 4 hours before I ask for one more of thoese granted spells then that is my choice. Now the long rests allows me to "erase the slate" and start fresh.

The point I am making is that I see these spell slot like cash at a store. By your logic I must use all of my cash in the first time I walk into the store. I am saying that if I CHOOSE I can spend two of my three dollors in the first time I walk into the store, and then later come back and spend my third dollor. Now if the DM saids you must spend X amount of time reseting up the ritutial to obtain the thrid spell choice, I am fine with that. As long as I have the option to obtain the thrid spell choice.
If you are making the rule out to be so restrictive then it should be written.

You are able to change your spells after a long rest. The rules don't give you any other time to change your spells. It is not like cash, which you can spend when you want, because the rules don't say it works like that.
Your wording would require characters to change their spells every day, that is not intended. |

it says... You can also change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest.
Your welcome to play how you want (or your DM allows), but there'd be no point in saying that if you could prepare them at any time. |
