Why are these listed in Basic D&D? I'm sure it's just an oversight… |
| #2UYtrdennisJul 11, 2014 22:09:05 | I guess they just pulled that directly from the Player's handbook. |
| #3Be3Al2Jul 12, 2014 5:24:33 | They did copy-paste from the Player's handbook, and it is at least as relevant as the multiclassing rules they included in Basic. |

It's a copy paste error for sure, and they missed a golden opportunity for that lead in. |
| #7AlynnJul 12, 2014 20:42:04 | Another reason is that, for example:
Player A cannot afford the PHB, but does have the internet and therefore basic D&D.
Player joins a group with player B playing one of those CHA based spellcasters
Player A understand why player B uses CHA even without owning the PHB. |

|
| #9lawrencehoyJul 13, 2014 21:47:02 | They've stated that the Basic D&D rules are straight from the other rule books. This is on purpose, so that they don't end up with contradictory rules between the versions.
That doesn't mean that the rule books won't expand on these rules; only that they won't state things differently.
It also doesn't mean that something won't change, between now and when those rulebooks are released; they will update Basic D&D with each release of the three core books (PHB, MM, & DMG). EDIT: I just hope they realize that they need to keep track of any such changes or modify the Basic D&D master PDF in realtime; so that no changes to the core books get overlooked in the Basic D&D PDF. |
