Therefore spells that deal necrotic damage should affect undead since they are not specifically immune to necrotic damage in their descriptions.
In other words, does Chill Touch damage undead? |
| #2FallingIcicleOct 11, 2014 19:07:06 | Undead, like all other monsters, only have the resistances and immunities listed in their stat blocks. Banshees, for example, are immune to necrotic damage, but skeletons are not. |

| #6DragolothOct 11, 2014 19:54:06 | The spell description specifically says that the damage affects undead. The second paragraph reads. If you hit an undead target, it also has disadvantage on attack rolls against you until the end of your next turn. I believe the "also" refers to "in addition to the damage". |
| #7Jay_Ibero_911Oct 11, 2014 19:53:35 | In 3.5 undead were healed by NEGATIVE ENERGY, and inflict spells were one form of that. In 4e, negative energy geneally became necrotic damage. Most undead were resistant to necrotic damage, but it was not automatic, and few, if any were healed by necrotic damage. So there is very little reason to make any assumption about how undead and necrotic damage interact in 5e. |
| #8DrycanthOct 11, 2014 19:55:20 | Its not exactly clear at the moment. We do not have all the DM rules that involve the Undead type only what is in the MM and the basic rules PDF. It also does not specify about desiese and sickness and other such aflictions only poison. So there will probably be some undead rider type in the DMG that will clarify some of these specific questions.
That is my guess as to what will happen any how.
