Cleric Domains

Will there be additional Cleric domains presented in future products?  Or an expansion of the domains associated with deities - particularly demihuman deities?  Or guidelines for DM creation of domains?

I run a 3.5ed campaign and we've started to map out how we can "re-imagine" the player characters into the 5e rule set.   Many of the current characters and their feats / prestige classes map over pretty well - a rogue (dungeon delver), sorceror (draconic heritage), a dual-wielding fighter, etc.

However, we've hit an obstacle in re-imagining the dwarven cleric of Moradin.   In past sourcebooks (2ed, 3.5ed) Moradin's domains have included some combination of good, law, and protection (and others).

But in 5e, Moradin (the only dwarven deity with details provided) has the "Knowledge" domain.  That results in a significant "flavor" mismatch to how clerics of Moradin play, compared to past editions.  We also noticed that the only "War" domain non-human deities trend toward evil non-humans, whereas Torm and Tyr (from the FR pantheon) have the War domain associated with them.

Hopefully there is a surge of demand from the player base for updates in the future to expand both the listed cleric domains, and expand the domains associated with various deities - particularly non-human deities!!

In the PHB they also state that most Good, non-evil dietes grant the Life domain, this should work with the Knowledge domain for Moradin the Soul Forger.

If you are lookign for a Dwarven diety of War, i would suggest Clanggedin.   Take a look at the Forgotten relams wiki for dwarven gods and go from there.

I thought the PHB had a pretty impressive number of domains to start with. And I expect to see a lot more in the future. For a Start page. Page. 293 of the PHB mentions the Death Domain is in the DMG! (alongside the Oathbreaker paladin subtype) I'm pretty happy how quirky, beefy and flavourful they make different varieties of cleric. I also like the fact they present the idea that different clerics of the same god might have different domains. There is however a potential multiclass issue with extra proficiencies granted via domains, but that's for another thread.

Just noticed the charts for deities in Apendix B lists Suggested Domains. This could imply that certain deities might be associeted with other domains. As a DM, I think I would let a cleric of Moradin choose the Life domain (which it says at the bottom of page 293 that a cleric of any non-evil deity can choose) or to a lesser extent, maybe War?

It is always DM's choice to grant a domain. I think anything you want to work out for your diety in order to most closely match him with previous editions is just fine. It's not as if you couldn't choose some other diety for the mechanical benefit, so there's no sense in not allowing you to be x domain.

I'm a horrible person and made my wife take a Tempest diety and match alignments to FR Wiki. Neutral Evil time. Party is gonna have some interpersonal issues to work out. (Probably repeatedly.)

In future supplements I think we're guaranteed Death (should be in DMG) and I would love it if they expanded them further than that. Variety in clergy is nice.

With the lack of emphasis on alignments, are you sure that there will even be Good or Law domains? The Knowledge Domain is specifically called out as applying to crafting deities.

I wonder if it's possible to multiclass Cleric, so you can choose another domain, I know that is stupid, but if you really want some feature :p

No, and from an RP perspective I wouldn't allow religious drift in multiclassing either. So I'd have some strictures on Cleric/Druid/Ranger/Paladin mixes. Anything that made sense would be fine, but oddball combos (Cleric whose domain is War and is a follower of Torm switching to Druid) wouldn't be allowed.

Anyone wanting to do a combo like that would want to have it make sense.

"I'm a Cleric of Auril, but I've decided to spend more time in the hinterlands and have become a Druid."

"After many years in the wilderness, my Druid of Silvanus has come to minister in a circuit of rural villages as a Cleric."

"My Cleric of Sune is going to swear vengeance on the despoilers of my temple as she takes up arms as a Paladin."
