#1 Acer123 Oct 21, 2014 16:31:00	Hi this is my first time playing as a cleric and I have recently leveled up. But I cant find out how many spells I gain per level. Dose a cleric learn spells like a wizard or do they have to find them.
#2 Novacat Oct 21, 2014 16:49:33	A cleric always has access to every spell on the cleric spell list, but at the beginning of each day, must "prepare" a number of spells equal to your Wisdom modifier plus your cleric level. Those spells that you prepare (plus some bonus spells based on your choice of domain), are the spells you can cast for that day, expending your spell slots to do so.
#3 Acer123 Oct 21, 2014 16:53:46	So a level 3 cleric knows all level 1 and 2 spells but still needs to prepare them like a wizard?
#4 Novacat Oct 21, 2014 16:55:33	Yes. Divine spellcasters (paladins, clerics, rangers, and druids) do not "know" any spells, per se. They simply prepare spells off their class's entire spell list.

#6 paulstrait Oct 21, 2014 20:04:36	As a cleric, don't think of your character as 'learning' magic.  A cleric prays for spells and is granted power through his or her faith and devotion to his or her deity.  The powers are a blessing.  The cleric doesn't know how they work -- they are supernatural in a way beyond the abilities of normal mortals.
#7 BRJN Oct 25, 2014 12:49:43	Wow.  This kind of inherent flexibility gave me paralysis by analysis with my v3.5 Bard - there were SO MANY spells to choose from, which ones would be useful for today's adventure?   Make up a notebook of every spell available to your character, then a scratchpad of spells that have worked out well, and ones you want to try.  Eventually you will get a 'flavor' list that you go to again and again.  Always keep one slot available for something new.
