Early in 5e edition we got told that when we have an ambiguity to ask on twitter and Crawford was the Rule guys to listen too.

Crawford told us that a fire dragon sorcerer add is charisma on every individual scorching ray, a wizard add his Intellect to every single schorching ray.

Now errate come out and say the exact opposite of what Crawford said?

So does that mean that Crawford is no longer the ask-to guy when we need an clarification on a rule?

No, it means Crawford told us what the rule said at the time (and even warned us it was being looked at). Now the rule has changed. Doesn't mean he was wrong, you can't expect anyone to provide answers based on what the future rules will be.

He's also said that this particular rule was one he was going to revisit. It looks like he did and he changed his mind.

Designers often have their rules changed in development. This is normal. The abnormal part is how responsive and quick Crawford has been between update documents, really.

If they were to change ruling how hard would it have been to give the ranger a little bit more mechanic advantage (making their pet as easy to control as a find familiar and find steed? The errata was suppose to just clarify rules and fix continuity mistake (like the 3rd grappler dot being made for a playtest rule that never got into the release)

This errata simply destroy the only viable sorcerer build (fire sorcerer) now sorcerer are officially and without context the weakest of the 3 full arcane caster (Wizard being light years ahead) If WotC wanted to piss off the player who love sorcerer and enjoy a nice optimized character grat they succeeded. Now the sorcerer can be:

- Wild and dangerous time bomb, unreliable and a potential danger to his own party even out of combat. Good mornign group, everyone go 20 ft away I'm about to cast mage armor and I might explode doing it.

- Or a dragon sorcerer who cannot cast spell of his element because the PHB got only 3 poison spell, 2 acid spell. Yeah I feel like a powerfull acid dragon, casting fireball or fear my all powerfull chromatic orb, the signature move of my poison dragon.

-Or a dragon sorcerer who cast a single concentration spell, (potentially 2 by twinning it) then fireball to get rid of the small worthless cannon fodder, then sit down and do nothing since they have no decent single target damaging spell. Yes disintegrate can be very good single target option, but how does disintegrate make me feel like a powerfull fire dragonic descendant? If disintegrate, finger of death are suppose to be my signature single target spell, then I want a necrotic / force ancestor so my signature spells can benefit from my subclass, instead of a subclass giving me

-Resilience: great I can survive more. Not enought to go front line, so I'm still staying back line and try to avoid melee combat at all cost. USELESS

Elemental afinity: I can apply it to very limited spell selection, and then I need to take a feat to be able to use those very limited spell selection to affect more creature

Fly: yes good ability giving me wing that I can use:

- If the adventure occur in wide open area

- If my DM allow me to cut my magical robe to accomodate my wings

- If am topless (or using non magical shirt/robe so I can cut the back to allow room for my wings)

Dragon presence: yay I can spend 25% of my sorcerer poinnt to cast mass fear or mass charm person. The same sorcerer that I need to replenish my spell (compare to the wizard who can replenish without affecting his other class feature) I also need those SAME sorcerer point for my metamagic, the cool feature of the sorcerer.

The bottom line is we're going to need a list of spells that can be twinned. Just heard that by the definition of the new errata that you can twin fireball since it targets 1 point/creature it just has an effect over a 20-ft radius - in other words, my DM is telling me it only targets 1 creature, just causes trouble for the others around him.

Jeff, is this the same RC you were quoting earlier?  Because if it is you really need to stop listening to him.

No, you cannot twin fireball. It obviously can target more than one person.

I do agree, the twinnable Scorching was an aberation that should have NEVER been allowed, and the rule abuser who took advantage of it should be ashame. Like those professing that sorcerer should have infinity spell slot, since the create spell slot never disapear and you regain your expendand spell slot so if you expended 10 spell level 1 you regian 10 spell level 1 and no where does it say you cannot have more spell slot then what is in the table. Yes by RAW you can still have infinity spell slot, you just need to expend the extra spell slot, then you'll recover them after your long rest. But this is stupid and is taking advantage of the "don't be stupid" rule, infinity spell slot is WAY overpower so obviously the rule do not intend that

But the change to EA was NOT necessary. Even scorching ray was fine dealing 2d6+5 per rays..

As for psionics I would prefer that they create a dedicated class and perhaps add in a feat and/or background to allow someone to gain access to limited psionics.  Or just MC!

I apologize if this has been asked elsewhere but I haven't been able to find it.

How do the new rules for EA interact with spells that last multiple turns? Some examples

Bronze DA casting Witch Bolt; do I add my cha on the later shocks while concentrating?

Red DA casting Elemental Weapon(Fire); do I ever add my cha to the damage on a melee attack?

-same casting Melf's Minute Meteors;Do I add my cha to one fireball, never?
