Quick question have heard people answer both ways.  Rolling a crit doubles the dice for an attacks damage correct?  This would include sneak attack?  What about divine smite?

I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with #3. Smite is added after the roll, but before damage. Crits apply damage before modifiers. I'm assuming "modifiers" means Ability scores and random spell buffs, but could potentially mean Smite as well, since it's applied after the attack roll.

But the ability to randomly roll an extra d8 5% of the time once in a battle isn't too game-breaking...I'll just deal with it when it comes up!

As written, ALL of the attack's damage *dice* get rolled twice. This includes added dice from class features. What does not get doubled are modifiers, for example strength bonuses, and additional damage that's specifically stated as being added when you land a critical hit, for example from Brutal Critical or Savage Attacks. In other words, the dice you would not normally get if you did not land a critical.

Would the same concept apply to the great weapon fighting style that rerolls 1s and 2s on all damage dice for attacks using a two handed weapon.  So I reroll smite dice also?
