Danger Sense help?

Hey there, me and my friend are trying to figure something out related to danger sense and the rules are a bit all over the place. On Pg.183 and Pg.289 of the phb it explains what causes blinded condition. Danger sense doesn't work with Blinded condition correct? So from what I'm reading, the blinded condition happens to PC when they are in darkness. Or if something or someone is "heavily obscurred"; such as an invisible monster or attacker. Or shrouded by an effect like heavy mist or fog.

So so if an invisible high elf Mage attacker, fires off lightning bolt at a human barbarian? Or a fireball exploded in a room that was pitch black, would danger sense apply. Since he couldn't see?

Also if the PC was raging and smashed down a door with a glyph of warding, would he have advantage on the exploding runes? Because they weren't investigated?

We both looked into it, and this is his what he believes. Any help or clarification would be great!

"Here is my danger sense research directly from the players hand book. P183 says a creature that is heavily obscured itself suffers the blind condition. P 291 says an invisible creature is heavily obscured for the purpose of hiding although it can be detected by noise and by tracks it leaves. P195 says if you are hidden by being both unheard and unseen you give away your position when an attack hits or misses. My ability says I have "advantage on dex saving throws against effects I can see, such as traps and spells. To gain this benefit,  you can't be blinded, deafened, or incapacitated." Now since I'm not a creature that itself is  being heavily obscured I'm not suffering from the blind condition. So unless a trap or lightning bolt make absolutely no sound or visual effect as part of being triggered or cast I should have advantage on a dex save against it. Otherwise my ability danger sense is useless. If the lightning bolt was somehow made invisible itself and I was in a zone of silence I would understand my danger sense not kicking in."

Thanks for quick reply.

Well Glyph of Warding is nearly invisible without the check. So I don't think he would of seen it. But what's the difference between a pitch black room and an invisible attacker, as they are both Heavily Obscurred. Since the Barbarian can't see the attack coming no more then an arrow being shot at him? Right?

Does that mean he can't be surprised with a spell? Or any kind of trap? That doesn't sound right. Anyone else?

Hmmm well. Maybe it's my understanding of the situation. But That still seems off. So any trap that is hidden and springs to attack him he has advantage? And invisible things are useless against the feature. It's like someone opening up a door with c4 that was camoflaughed and it explodes on them. Lol

I think in a pitch black room (Natural darkness, not the spell) a Lightning Bolt or Fireball can be seen. A fireball is, before it explodes, a glowing orange-yellow bead that flies through the air before detonating. And a lightning bolt, as with natural lightning, produces its own flash of light when it comes into existance, so a Barbarian would be able to see them coming, or, as Tempest stated, they could hear it being cast and attempt to act accordingly.

It doesn't say you have to see the source of an effect.    It says effects you can see.   You can definitely see a lightning bolt or fireball unless you are physically/magically blinded.  Being inside the area of magical darkness would seem to negate the ability though. In normal darkness (assuming no darkvision) you would need to use spells that don't involve fire or lightning since those effects create visible light.   Acid, sonic, cold, possibly necrotic, etc. should be fine.

You don't need to see a glyph of warding, just the effect it causes.  I can't think of any spells that require dex saves that don't create visible signs.
