| #1imaginariJul 09, 2015 23:31:42 | Sorry if this question has been asked multiple times.
If a Warlock casts the Darkness spell on himself (or his weapon) and he possesses Devil's Sight to be able to see through it, what effect does this have on combat?
If he is firing Eldritch Blasts out of the Darkness at opponents that aren't within it's radius, does the Warlock have advantage?
If enemies are firing at the Warlock within the Darkness, do they have disadvantage, do they automatically miss, or do they have to quess the Warlock's location first (presumably the center of the Darkness)?
Thanks.
P.S. If anyone can point me to any good comprehensive posts about Darkness, I would be most thankful. |

Just because the enemy cannot see you does not mean you are hidden. So if you're walking around in your orb of darkness they may hear your steps, hear you invoking a spell, etc.
At fairly short distances I rule that ranged attacks against you just have to be along the correct line, although still at disadvantage of course. That is just how I run it however, there's no official rule.
In addition if you're in the center of a mobile globe of darkness most intelligent enemies are probably going to guess that you're somewhere in the middle.
The other thing to remember is that you will be effectively blinding your nearby allies as well.
All in all, the combination can be powerful but there are limitations. |

So to summarize:
Does that sounds about right?

If you are hidden then they have to guess, and if they do correctly, still suffer disadvantage if they can't see you. |

| #17OoftaMegJul 12, 2015 9:40:36 | There is no "super disadvantage" so in most cases I would rule that it's just disadvantage and unless the person in the globe is being stealthy people know approximately where they are.
But there's a lot of variables. What's the environment like? Is it a relatively quiet environment with hard floors that echo when you walk? How much of the globe can the enemy see? Do they know how something like a globe of darkness would work?
It's a DM call, there is no hard and fast rule. |

| #21YunruJul 12, 2015 17:00:24 | You know what? Let's run with your logic. It also doesn't say you know where someone is even if you can see them. So therefore we have to guess where everyone is all the time right? No. Unless something's hidden you know where it is. |
