| #1LilikaJun 24, 2015 11:37:42 | First let me make sure I have the rules right. Paladin Divine Smite damage is extra damage dice, so these will be doubled on a crit. Second, you can declare you are using Holy Smite after you determine if you hit. Therefore you know if you crit or not before deciding to use a spell slot this way. |

| #6Coredump00Jun 24, 2015 13:33:23 | It seems OP at first. But for a Paladin spell slots, and thus Smites, are in fairly short supply. Even if you score a crit, it usually isn't worth a Smite unless you were planning on using one anyway.

| #11GladiusLegisJun 24, 2015 15:43:45 | Oh yeah, the damage is amazing when it happens, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying from a tactical standpoint it's often better to get damage when you can in the first round, even if it's not a crit.
Of course, the best party setup is if a spellcaster buddy of yours has Hold Person/Monster, hehehe. (Or at the earliest of levels, Sleep.) |
