Dismissing Non-Concentration Spells?

Not sure if this has been answered elsewhere so apologies if it has.  I know that certain spells with a duration that are not concentration also explicitly state that they can be dismissed early (minor illusion, etc).  Is this a general rule that for some reason didn't make itinto the general spellcasting rules?  Or is it specific to only those spells that state it in their description?

 

Grease, for example, has a duration but does not require concentration.  A player in a game I am DMing has been casting it and then asking if they can dismiss it.  By RAW, the answer seems to be "no, you just have to wait it out".

 

Is this correct?  My rationale was that it is a balancing factor against not needing concentration.

There is currently no mechanism that I know of for ending the duration of a spell early short of a dispel magic for spells that don't require concentration.
