Disrupting Spells?

So....is there a way to do it?  I know in the older edtions you could hit someone casting and they would have to take a Concentration check to ensure they don't mess up the spell.  Is there something like that now?  It seems that spells just go off now.  Am I wrong?

There are some older modules I'm reading that have NPCs with bows who wait to shoot at casters casting.  I assume they HOLD their action until someone is casting, then fire.  But.....does it do anything?

Thanks!

If it's a 1 action cast, and you somehow can use your reaction to attack the caster mid-cast, I could see (as a house-rule) making a Constitution check to complete the cast. But Raw, I don't think there's any way to interrupt a 1 action spell except via Counterspell.

If a spell casting time is longer than 1 action, concentration is necessary to complete it, so it can be disrupted in the same way concentration always can.

There's a mageslayer feat, counter spell. concentration, and ready a silence spell.

That's all i can think of.  But, spells aren't quite as dominating as they used to be, so it's less of a deal.

I also wouldn't mind having someone ready-action to strike when they cast a spell, this could potentially force a "Concentration" check in order to not lose the spell.

Hasn't come up yet but I'd offer this as an option to my players, despite the RAW options already available. But I'd also remind them they can be subjected to this, too!

I was just thinking about this yesterday on the way home. Even the Mage Slayer getting their AoO, doesn't force a CON check if you're going by RAW only. It used to be 10+Damage-Dealt if I'm not mistaken, no? That'd be ridiculous with the way saves work now and how much damage can be doled out even by low-level characters.

Maybe house-rule it can happen only with a readied action to attack the caster?

Thanks guys.  I don't want to house rule anything.  Just RAW.  I wasn't sure how it worked, but I get it now.  Thanks!
