DMG Variant: Proficiency Dice

Anyone planning on using it? I think I like the idea. It smacks of faint shades of Alternity to me.

 

I just don't know if the extra fiddle-bits-iness of it is quite worth it...

They had it in the playtest, and alot of people liked it there.

 

Math wise it increases the swinginess.  You can fail trivial stuff, and succed at extremely hard stuff.

If you like it when the master stealth guy fails to pas the druink sentry, or the novice bluffs a god, then it's a good option.

I understand the math, thanks.

 

I'm more talking about the fiddliness of having more (conditional) dice flying around all the time. The, "Oh, I forgot I'm proficienct in athletics, I need to add a d6 to that check I just rolled..." type stuff.
