Do I have the combat rules down?

I'm just going to list my understanding of D&D 5E combat rules. Please correct me if something is wrong:

-At the beginning of combat, each participant must roll initiative, but the DM can roll once for a group of identical creatures if he/she wants.

-During your turn, you may move and take one action, unless you have a spell or ability that allows you to take a bonus action

-Reactions can be taken at any time, including on another creature's turn

-To attack, choose a target within range. Roll a D20 and add your attack bonus. If your score is equal to or greater than the targeted creature's Armor Class, you score a hit. If you get a 1 on your attack roll, however, you miss regardless of any modifiers, whereas if you roll a 20 you get an automatic hit AND you roll double your attack damage.

- Creatures die when they are reduced to 0 hit points, but  if a PC is reduced to 0 hit points, they must make a Death Saving Throw. If they fail 3 times, they die.

-Repeat in this way until one side is defeated.

Looks right to me.

-To make a save (usually from a spell), the target of the spell rolls a d20, adds it's modifier, and if it is equal to or greater then your DC, it succed on its save.

Similar to attacks, but reversed.  Note that there is no special bonus for 1 or 20 on spells.

If you've downloaded the Basic Rules, a brief explanation of what Saving Throws are and how they work is on page 62.

If a spell allows a saving throw to resist part or all of its effects, it will say so in the spell description, as well as specifiying the type of saving throw required. (For example, burning hands allows a Dexterity saving throw for half damage.) If a spell does not list a type of saving throw to resist its effects, then no save is allowed. (For example, magic missile does not describe any sort of saving throw to resist its effects, so no save is allowed -- any creature targeted by a missile takes the damage rolled for that missile.)

Also, don't forget about possible surprise rounds, prior to combat (wisdom/perception versus dexterity/stealth) .  Also, it's good to get the position that everyone is in hashed out before the combat begins (if it was not discussed, as the DM tell the PCs they are in a position that makes sense to whatever was going on before the combat, or simply allow them to choose their own position).

Note that you cannot take reactions during a surprise round.

Under the second bullet point in the OP I would add that your move can be split up during your turn.

And they can choose non lethal damage "the instant the damage is dealt."
