The ward does not mention Temp HP. So my belief is it does work, and the ward would take damage first. If the ward takes damage, does the Armor's trigger of being hit still occur? |

When damage pass over the ward, then they deplete your armor of Agathys and receive damage accordingly. and no need for concentration check, since THP is a protective pool of HP protecting you agains injuries so no concentration needed.
When damage overcome your THP then you receive real damage, and require to do a concentration check if needed. |

If the Ward takes the damage, I would say that no concentration check is required for that damage, becuase "the Ward takes the damage instead."
Even if the Ward takes all of the damage from an attack, the cold damage from Armor of Agathys would still hit the attacker, because Armor doesn't depend on "taking damage" but just "being hit with a melee attack while you have the THP." |
