I'm not exactly sure what sort of things we can use downtime hours to do.
In the pamphlet it mentions that you can use it at the end of a level bracket to "catch up." And level up your character. It also mentions that you can use downtime to learn a language. How many downtime days does it take to learn a language?
One task I would like to do is craft a small pouch to lace around my owl familiar's ankle. Now I would be fine purchasing a pouch and then just crafting the "attachment contraption." -- Any idea's on how to calculate this?
Thank you!

Languages take 250 days and 1 gp per day to learn, and you must first find a willing trainer. Tool proficiencies can be learned the same way.
Crafting requires proficiency in the correct type of tools, and it basically allows 5 gp worth of goods per day to be created at half price.
A pouch costs only 5 sp, so it can easily be completed in one day of downtime with the correct tools, tool proficiency, and 2 sp 5 cp worth of materials. Since that is for a 1 pound pouch that can hold 1 ⁄ 5 cubic foot or 6 pounds of gear, the DM might rule that a smaller pouch was lighter and cheaper. |

Freezing Burst 3rd-level evocation Duration: Instantaneous An icy streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then erupts with a chilling screech into an explosion of frozen shards. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd. |
