Hey guys, I am looking at starting a campaign using the old Mystara campaign setting. The game itself will be starting from the Keep on the Borderlands. I am looking at having a major player behind the scenes, a green dragon who has infiltrated the keep and is posing as one of the citizens. My only problem is, green dragons can't shape shift. Problem solved, he has some sort of magical device. Now I run with the problem of profencies. I would figure a creature as old as an ancient green dragon would have picked up a few tricks along the way. How would you guys handle this?

I would handle this in the way that Mystara has already handled a canon NPC that is a dragon that masquerades as a normal wizard - take the age of green dragon you want to use, add the trait that allows it to take humanoid form, and add any special traits (like class levels) you want the dragon to be able to access.

That way you could have a situation like Synn who is a dragon and a high-level mage, but is pretending that she is just Dolores Hillsbury, Princess of Fenswick, who happens to be a high-level mage (as is required to be given the title of prince or princess in Glantri).

All 5e Dragons have the Ability to have spell access similar to a sorcerer. Page 86 of the MM has a Variant: Dragons as Innate Spellcasters block. Polymorph spell would allow him to shapeshift into a human for up to an hour. An adult green dragon gains one spell of 1st through 5th level.
