Drow, Darkness and Faerie Fire?

Can Drow use darkness and Faerie Fire in combination?  For example blanket an area in darkness after casting faerie fire on the targets.  So the enemy is engulfed in darkness but the drow can still see them to attack?

All magical light of 2nd-level or lower is instantly extinguished within the area of Darkness, so I doubt it.

Oh, also worth noting is that both spells require concentration, so the same drow couldn't cast them both at the same time anyway.

 

If you wanted to houserule a special ability for drow that would make sense with the novels and previous editions, you could replace darkness with something like the 4e 'cloud of darkness,' which created a 15'x15' square of darkness that totally obscured vision to all but you (or, to be even more faithful to the novels, to all but you and other drow).
