It's pretty good, esp. for a Moon Druid at level 2 or 3 turning into a Brown Bear or Dire Wolf.
Played one for a while based on the last playtest, it was powerful then

... but since then they made it 2/rest, made monster attacks far stronger, and made form options far more open and provided it with a self-healing ability!

A few limitations:

Spells:
You can only cast spells (aside form that nifty self-heal) in beastform at level 18+
Although you maintain concentration, so cast Moonbeam or Call Lighting and then go turn into a bear!
- You do risk loosing concentration with damage. DC10 isn't hard to pass but if it happens enough chances aren't in your favour.

Low AC:
You have a ton of HP, but you'll take noticeably more hits than other frontliners, and they'll evaporate quickly.
Barkskin (AC 16) kinda helps, although is a concentration spell so stops you having other concentration spells active.

Monsters Scale off.
Being CR1 at levels 2-5 is pretty good, CR 2 looks strong at six. CR 3 at 9 is less impressive. Being an elemental is pretty cool though.

Nerf twice/rest?

I am surprised that you can Wildshape twice/short rest at level 2. This seems a large part of the concerns I've seen.
I do wonder if they will errata it to 1/rest and twice per rest being a higher level class ability. (It was Level 8 in the last playtest)

Still I love wildshape, and reminds me of my favourite use of it in 3.5

Turn into a Eagle to fly ahead and scout for the party.

Then turn into a penguin to play in the snow until they caught up!

Keep in mind that it's not "every hour". You have to actually rest for an entire hour to get your uses back. That doesn't happen nearly as often as the short rests in, for example, 4th edition did.

Also: if you revert because you hit 0 in beast form, druid form takes the overage. (Also, falling damage if you were flying at the time...)

There's a druid in my campaign. I'm hoping he makes liberal use of wild shape because it's just awesome.

It really all depends on what's in the monster manual. There's a ton of interesting options in the CR1 range, but they pretty much fall off completely after that. There aren't any flyers above CR1, nothing with crazy utility like the Giant Octopus or Giant Toad, save the elemental forms. Being a triceratops is neat, but not exactly exciting.

Also keep in mind you don't go back to full HP when you revert from wild shape, you go back to the HP you had before you used wild shape. If you had 1 hp when you use wild shape and get dropped to 0 in wild shape with 3 damage left over you revert from wild shape and are unconcious since the leftover will reduce you below 0 HP after reverting. If you don't pay attention to the wording you may think it reverts to full HP but it doesn't.

The exact wording from the PHB:

When you revert to your normal form, you return to the number of hit points you had before you transformed.

This means your current HP when you transformed, not your maximum HP so wild shaping is basically some temporary HP not a HP restoring ability.

In addition to what others have pointed out, you only get the beast's hp not your own when you wild shape.  For a Circle of the Moon druid, that can be pretty high though.

I'm curious about a barbarian/druid.

The druid Wild Shape description says you can still use any class/race features that your new form is physically capable of. The way I read that, you could have a Barbarian 1/Druid 2 character that could turn into a raging brown bear (34 hp with resistance) twice per day. It also seems like the bear form would benefit from Unarmoured Agility to add it's Con mod to AC...

Just FYI, we spent a decent amount of time examining the benefit of barbarian's Unarmored Defense on wild shapes in the first 11 levels. For our game, which seems to progress levels at the expected (and in our opinion, slow!) pace, the multiclassing of even one level was not worth it. It delays everything important to the moon druid, as everything is tied to druid level. I.E., you'd really feel the pain at level 6 still using CR 1 forms, when you could be using CR 2 forms, and so on. Even worse with level 10 elemental forms being delayed.

Just our 2 cents.

Having just played all day as a level 2 Moon Druid, I'm thinking a level of Monk or Barbarian is pretty much essential. Having 30-50 temp HP is pretty awesome, but they're also really easy to chew through when the DM is hitting you on a 6+.  Splashing monk worked out really well for me in the last adventure; the rooms we were in were too tight to make a large-sized form manageable, so Shillelagh and Martial Arts kept me competitive. Also, +3 to AC in most forms makes them last a lot longer. The Bear Totem Barbarian, the Open Hand and Elemental Monks all add a lot of features that work in beast form.

The bummer about the Moon druid is that 2/3 of your levels are really boring.
