Being newcomers to the game me and my group are wondering if the wild shape class feature for Druids enables them to turn into any beast (within cr restrictions) at any time or if they have to chose one beast that is their form and then can shape into that at any given point. That is to say, can a Druid turn into a bear first, then next round turn into a lion or does she have to chose to have bear as their wild shape?
Tbh I think the feature is rather powerful already at level 2 at least. Shifting into whatever is needed at any point makes it borderline op. But hopefully it balances out at higher levels.

And yes, moon druids are OP at level 2, but it balances out by about level 5. |

Be transformed into normal self and then wild shape again into bear. Fight it out down to zero and finally start to worry about hp when she is her normal self again. This made the fighter in the group drop shield and go for two handed dmg dealing. ;) |

In brown bear form with his 34 hp and multi-attack, he looks very impressive, until you see his meagre AC 12. A few ranged attackers and a couple of decent AC NPCs to hold him and it takes around 2 rounds to 'drop' him (back to normal form). I actually think it gives the moon druid a false sense of power that gets him into trouble often (instead of doing the more subtle druid thing of holding back, wisely). |
