Improvised weapons are still one-handed melee weapons many cases; would you still gain the benefits associated with this feat with improvised weapons? Example, using a shield for improvised bashing d4 damage as a bonus action after making normal weapon attack as an action. |

1) Yes the Dual Wielding feat applies to improvised weapons. 2) The rules are unclear about what happens when you try an use your shield as a second weapon.
Crawford has said he plans on addressing this in a Sage Advice column (at some point) |
