If you're going to say that the attack caused the 1d6 fire damage instead of the spell, then the attack also caused them to light on fire, so that wouldn't count as spell damage either.
As far as I'm concerned, no fire damage would be happening without the spell being cast, so the spell caused that damage, and Elemental Affinity applies. One could rule otherwise, but I'm not sure why they would. |

Even if this is similar to something like "i use firewall to put on fire torches(marshmallow) and then i attack with those causing fire damage" , in which case i won't allow cha bonus. But i'm only interested in knowing if you have found a better spell to exploit this mechanic(in this case can you let us know) or you are just building a melee sorc for fun.
p.s. since elemental affinity says "when you cast a spell" do you generally apply cha bonus to ongoing damage? i remeber something (maybe 4e) about bonus to damage didn't work with the ongoing one. |

| #5Ninja_FerretJan 17, 2015 20:17:42 | I would say it adds to both the inital and the ongoing. |
| #6ConterterJan 18, 2015 3:07:15 | anyway a diablostick build isn't that bad. booklock3 oathbreaker11 firesorc 6 with polearm master duelling and shillelang with some preparation 3 attack the first is 1d8+2+5(shillelang)+1d8(improved divine smite)+5aura+4d8(divine smite)+2d6+5(searing smite at lvl 2) and 1d6+5 ongoing the second is 1d8+2+5(shillelang)+1d8(improved divine smite)+5aura+4d8(divine smite) the 3rd 1d4+2+5(shillelang)+1d8(improved divine smite)+5aura+4d8(divine smite). as a reaction you can use hellish rebuke for 2d10+5 and you can also use the darkness+devil sight you like so much. even if actually fire sorc 6 doesn't add that much but is only for flavour.
