Extra Attack Cantrip

A 6th level College of Valor Bard gets access to an Extra Attack.  The PHB says that "you can attack twice, instead of once", is this limited to weapon attacks, or could a bard that knows cantrips that require attack rolls cast the cantrip twice?

To expand on the reasoning:

 

The Extra Attack feature specifies use of the Attack action.  "Attack" and "Cast a Spell" are two different actions in combat.  Now, later on, you can attack when you use the Cast a Spell action to cast a bard spell.  But that's still not using an Attack action, and you won't get the Extra Attack, too.
