I also belive it had said can not be put to sleep even by magical means in an earlier edition, but I may be way off on that. #8 Ashlock Feb 04, 2015 13:25:04	As a lot of early D&D lore is very (understandably) derived or inspired from The Lord of the Rings, I can tell you this is probably where it came from. In The Two Towers, in regards to Legolas:   ...and he could sleep, if sleep it could be called by Men, resting his mind in the strange paths of elvish dreams, even as he walked open-eyed ing the light of this world.   And then a bit later:   Legolas already lay motionless, his fair hands folded upon his breast, his eyes un-closed, blending living night and deep dream, as is the way with Elves.   I think it's best stated that they simply enter a state not exactly like sleep, so magic that places you into that state just doesn't work with their biology. But unconsciousness is another matter. If drugged, in my game, I'd make it have some kind of affect on an elf but not quite work as the poisoner intended. If nothing else, they could fall unconscious but still be vaguely aware of things, like being stunned.
#9 Caliburn Feb 04, 2015 13:39:02	Yes a non-magical drug or poison which puts the Elf to sleep works if they fail the relevant save.   It isn't magical, and Elves can choose not to sleep - they are not incapable of it.
