The blade is similar in size and shape to a scimitar ."   It's scimitar-like. So close it's Scimitar-esque, even! But! Not a Scimitar. You may convince the DM that it should be a light melee martial weapon, and many would allow it (I may, still undecided). But RAW, it is still NOT a Scimitar (thus loses its stats as such).   Interestingly, it ALSO does not say you gain proficiency with it...hmmmmmmm...(that makes me more inclined to just call it an actual Scimitar and call it a day)

Unless you multiclass into sorceror so you can use metamagic on it, two blades are impossible to cast in the first place.   EDIT: Then again, I could have read the original question more closely and realized that wasn't the question. Derp.
