| #1LiquidSlugApr 08, 2015 6:35:31 | Hi,
A friend and I have been discussing over the specifics of a potential 4v1 scenario concerning his Monk. The issue we're having is coming to an agreement on the way in which Flurry of Blows procs, and if movement is allowed in-between.
Let's assume 5th level Monk with +3 (16) Dex. - Extra Attack - 5 Ki points - Stunning Strikes - Flurry of Blows
Monk's Ideal Scenario:
|
| #2KentusApr 08, 2015 6:57:04 | For moving between flurry of blows, there is a Sage Advice, so the developers are the opinion, that it's possible to move between attacks per attack action and attacks per flurry of blows and any attack in general.
The timing is: Attack action (all attacks) and then the attacks due Flurry of Blows. Under most circumstances you can take bonus actions even between attack, but Flurry of Blows says after the Attack action, so you have first to complete the attack action (by doing all attacks) and then you can start your flurry. |

Just to clarify further... The monk (if intendng to use both attack actions) must hit twice, then is allowed to flurry twice? If the second strike misses, is the monk limited to one flurry, or can they just keep spending ki until something dies?
Cheers for that link too! |

The Extra Attack trait at 5th level turns 1D6 into 2D6, and cannot be broken down into 2x 1D6 seperated by movement? |

He can move before, between, or after any of those attacks. He can use Stunning Strike for any of those attacks he chooses.
Move 5' attack (stun) move 10' attack (stun) move 10' attack (stun) move 5' attack (stun) move 15'
This is possible, and legal, but will also burn through all 5 of his Ki in one round. The first two attacks (from the Attack Action) can be made with a weapon, but the 2 from FoB must be unarmed strikes.

| #8LiquidSlugApr 08, 2015 7:54:01 | Right, that was easier to comprehend, thanks HK.
Attack + Stun Move Extra Attack + Stun Move Bonus Action FoB Strike 1 of 2 + Stun Move Bonus Action Continued FoB Strike 2 of 2 + Stun Move
That seems so stronk. O_O The PhB needs an extended version for these detailed explanations -_-
I think I've got it though! Thanks! |

He was Open Palm and obviously wanted to drop the guy prone before he took his other attacks. Rodney didn't say anything otherwise, neither would I.
Going to go on all out attack mode? Spend the Ki and do so. So long as the FoB attacks are unarmed, do it in whatever order floats your boat. |

| #13Danny_MontannyApr 09, 2015 7:18:30 | So while I'm fighting a foe with my sword, I can't call to my God to provide divine healing to my comrade that's sorely pressed across the field of battle?
I can't spin an attack routine with my staff, throw a kick in there, then follow trough with a vicious jumping overhead chop?
Yes. There are rules. But they're in place to help bring a story to life, not to hobble it beyond all recognition of awesomeness. Attack, hit, miss, damage, hit points, armor class... all of these things are abstractions. Don't let them ruin your fun. |

| #16Danny_MontannyApr 09, 2015 9:01:18 | Does the order really matter, honestly? Spend your Ki and beat monsters up. If you want to restrict it and say they have to expend their mystical life force before any attacks are resolved, so be it. If you say they can spend it mid-turn to put a little more speed into their combat routine, is it game breaking?
Ultimately it boils down to the very principal of this game. Playing together, cooperatively, to tell a bad ass story. Talk to the DM on how you view it, discuss how it's to be handled, and then move on to punch a billion Goblins in their sniveling noses. |
| #17Danny_MontannyApr 09, 2015 9:11:08 | Back to the original post, though. If you want to use all of your resources as a 5th level Monk to run around and kick 4 enemies in their nethers to stun them. Why the heck not? The rules allow it no matter how you slice it. Resolve the order in however it makes sense to your table. Flurry first, Flurry last, it doesn't ultimately change anything in my opinion. Just do something cool. And for the love of all that is holy, know that's what you want to try to do before I tell you it's your turn. |
