Gauntlets in 5th Edition

I got a few questions for the community that maybe you all can help me out with.

I am making up a new monk character for my first 5th edition game. I want to use gauntlets like what was in earlier editions of D&D. However I cannot find any rules for them. Does anyone know if there are published 5th edition rules for gauntlets? All I can find is a reference to them that they are included with some suits of armor.

If not, I might be able to homebrew some temporary rules for them. Previously in other editions gauntlets would do 1d3 points of damage that could be multiplied by x2 on a critical hit. They were considered light simple weapons that acted as an unarmed attack. So with that information I guess I could make something workable (minus the critical damage multiplier).

If I had gauntlets that did 1d3 points of damage, a monk could use them with the martial arts class ability. This would allow them to do 1d4 points of damage in place of normal damage as a monk weapon.

However the same ability allows for an unarmed attack to do 1d4 points of damage instead of the normal one point of bludgeoning damage for an unarmed attack.

With this information, it seems like gauntlets would be pointless. Does anyone know of any information that would help with this? Thanks in advance!

There are no gauntlet rules.

1d4 seems fine.  Same as an improvised weapon.

Monks automaticly increase the die size of all their weapons, so i don't see any need to make them anything else.   Though it could be a good way to give them magic weapons while still punching things.  (i.e. +1 gauntlets).
