#1 Cooperjera Feb 11, 2015 5:05:35	Hello,   I'm bringing Red Hand of Doom to 5th ed and in part three of the adventure there is a creature called a Ghost Dire Lion.  This creature has two abilities that drain ability damage.  In general 5th ed. does not use ability drain.  In part it's useless because of magic items setting abilities to a score.  One of the ability drains is a gaze abiltiy.  Looking at the 5th ed Medusa gaze for guidance, it appears that the medusa can cause a petrifying gaze to occure on each players turn if the right conditions exist.  This feels like the creature with a gaze ability gets an attack on every other creatures turn.  Would that be the correct way of interpreting the gaze ability?   The Ghost Dire Lion (CR 7) has the following text:  A ghost dire lion can blast a living being with a glance, at a range of up to 30 ft.  Creatures that meet the ghost's gaze must make a DC 18 Fort save or take 2d10 points of dmage and 1d4 points of Charisma damage.   This ability feels like a ranged attack and a gaze ability.  Would you convert it to a ranged attack or a gaze abiltiy?   The ability drain does not work well with 5th ed.  I was thinking of using the Contagion spell as guidance.  In particular the Filth Fever section details disadvantage on abiltiy checks, ability saving throws, and attacks using the abiity.  I was also going to add a -5 to scores that use the ability.  My group of players have characters that use Charisma as a casting stat (Warlock, Paladin, Sorcerer).  Would you use something else or have a different recomendation?   Finally, there is no duration for this ability drain / ability disadvantage.  What would you have as a recomendation?  In general 5th ed uses 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours, 7 days, permanent.   Thank you.
