hand to hand /unarmed combat

Am I missing something?

 

I can't seem to find rules in the PHB for punching on without weapons?

Am I missing them? If they're not included, how are people handling it?

You still add your strength modifer as well.

 

So 1+ Str.

Don't forget to add your strength bonus to damage! Or your proficiency bonus in the attack if you're proficient with simple weapons!

 

Basically, everyone but certain spell casters, really.

Yeah I figured the Str bonus added to damage,

but it was good to confirm.

 

I had an idea where a group of Dwarves challenge a party member to a one on one contest of either fist or hammer.

Fist  = a hand to hand fight

Hammer = hammer throwing contest.

 

But I'm hoping the players assume Hammer means fighting with weapons and thus choose the fists.
