Greetings,

I'm working on a sort of large home brew project for 5E. One element of that project is the creation of "class feats." These are feats that are designed specifically for each class. They are taken whenever the class would otherwise get an ability score boost.

To that effect, I wanted to present a few of my ideas for the fighter class. Many of them go against the grain of 5E design, which I fully acknowledge. I'd love it if you'd review them and see what you think.

These should be roughly the same power level as any normal feat.

~~Ability Boost
You may increase any ability by 2 (max 20), or any 2 abilities by 1 (max 20).

Arcane Weapon
Requires Weapon Bond class feature
You may use your bonded weapon as a Spell Focus. When you cast a spell with a range of “touch” you may use a bonded melee weapon to add that melee weapon’s damage dice to the touch spell’s effects.

Counterattack
When an opponent attacks and you roll 20 on your defense/Armor roll, you may immediately inflict damage on him with any weapon you are holding that can reach him.

Celerity
You gain proficiency in Dexterity savings throw, and +5 to all initiative rolls.

Determination
Double the Hit Points gained from your Second Wind ability.

Fighting Style
You train in an additional fighting style. You may not select a fighting style you have learned from this or any other class.

Helping Hand
As a bonus action, you may help up a comrade who is prone within 5 feet of you. Once per day, you may use this ability to help up an ally who is at 0 HP. They immediately gain 1 HP. (this one is really weak, but I like it from a conceptual standpoint)

Shot on the Run
When using the Dash action, you may use a bonus action to make a ranged attack.

Signature Attack
Once per rest, you may use your Signature Attack. Describe your special attack, and give it a schnazy name. Your attack gains +4 to hit or +4 to damage.

Tactician
Requires Battle Master subclass
Gain 2 additional tactics dice.

Weapon Focus
Select a single weapon. You gain +1 to attack rolls with that weapon.

Weapon Specialization
Select a single weapon with which you have Weapon Focus. You gain +2 to damage with that weapon.

Not even sure what your "defense/Armor roll" is for Counterattack, and I just don't like Helping Hand as fighter-type thing. The latter is purely a preferential matter, though.

On Signature Attack and Weapon Focus... I'm glad 5e did away with many of miscellaneous bonuses from 4e. I'd rather see these two feats rolled into one if I were to present these options to my table. I was thinking something like, you can make a special attack (no rest limitation) with advantage, but cannot gain this advantage against any enemy who has seen you perform it before, whether that was last attack action, or last week.

The rest seems pretty cool, and I look forward to seeing what your other class-specific feat lists contain. I find the variety of feats in the PHB underwhelming, and many of them unattractive compared to simple ASIs.

Why wouldnt Shot on the Run be a Ranger ability as well? that totally sounds like something a ranger could pull off. I would also combine weapon focus and specilazation.  What is that defense/armor roll your talking about in counter attack? another house rule of yours?

I would use this instead for Arcane Weapon:

Arcane Weapon
Requires Weapon Bond class feature.
You may use your bonded weapon as a Spell Focus even if you do not have Spell Focus as a class feature. You may replace the melee spell attack of a spell with a range of “Touch” (if it has one) with a single attack with a bonded melee weapon and add that melee weapon’s damage dice to the spell’s effects.

I would also add an archer equivalent, or at least alternative for ranged Eldritch Knights.
