#1 kardock Mar 24, 2015 18:43:27	hi all,  I don't understand how to use a scroll. Let's say my level 3 wizard finds a fireball scroll. What are the requirements to use the scroll? Is there a DC? Something else?   Thanks!
#2 alienux Mar 24, 2015 19:38:49	From the Basic DM Rules on page 60:   A spell scroll bears the words of a single spell, written in a mystical cipher. If the spell is on your class’s spell list, you can use an action to read the scroll and cast its spell without having to provide any of the spell’s components. Otherwise, the scroll is unintelligible. If the spell is on your class’s spell list but of a higher level than you can normally cast, you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether you cast it successfully. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a failed check, the spell disappears from the scroll with no other effect. Once the spell is cast, the words on the scroll fade, and the scroll itself crumbles to dust.

#7 BRJN Apr 04, 2015 19:25:53	More seriously, if you ever get a scroll with a higher-level spell than you can currently cast, do not use it first thing.  First, copy it into your spellbook (if you have one).  THEN use it. (Note that the scroll only crumbles to dust if you try to cast the spell.)
