| #1darkclutchesMar 01, 2015 3:34:28 | A few questions about the Find Steed spell and an associated control issue before I take my 5th level paladin to the table. I realize the final answers are up to the DM, so I'm just looking for input.
1) The spell description mentions that I can communicate telepathically with the steed if it is within 1 mile, but would I know where it is if we were to get separated? Would it know where I was? Let's assume I had to dismount and venture underground, only to be forced to the surface some distance away, creating a possible search area of 3.14 square miles.
2) If the steed is reduced to 0 hit points and disappears from existence until conjured again, does it take the barding and saddle, or do I end up dragging that stuff around until I'm able to cast the spell once again?
3) My steed has an Intelligence of 6, understands common, and we can communicate. How much of what it hears do you think it'll be able to pass along to me? After all, it's as smart as an ettin, a minotaur, or a troglodyte; and smarter than a hill giant or troll. (I could have my own equine spy operation, Codename: Wilbur).
4) Would the "unusually intelligent" and "seamless unit" descriptions of the steed allow it to perform as an independent mount in combat (PH 198, Controlling a Mount)? I'd think so, since this pretty much dovetails into #3 above.
