The level 14 illusionist special ability allows the caster to make one object in an illusion she cast real for one minute (with caveats about damage, etc.) This can be done either while casting, or as a bonus action on a later turn, while the spell is still in effect.

My question is: for spells with a very long duration (like Major Image cast using a level 6 slot), can this ability be applied only once per spell? Or can you make a part of the ongoing illusion real multiple times, just only one thing at a time for one minute at a time?

I can see the case either way (and obviously the latter is more fun). Just curious a) what others think and b) if the latter case could be in any way considered too much (bearing in mind you have to be minimum level 14 for this partic trick).

From what I could tell, there's no limit on how many times Illusory Reality could apply on the same spell. You could even use it on other objects created by the same illusion spell on later turns, provided the spell was capable of doing so of course.

Oh, and just to clarify, using this feature requires you to spend a bonus action to make it take effect. You can't use it as the spell is being cast.
