| #1reddaemonAug 30, 2014 13:52:54 | The wording of this has me confused. You are level 11 Paladin(you have Improved Divine Smite) and you spend a level 1 spell slot to Smite. You are wielding a longsword. How much damage do you do?
A) 1d8 Slashing(Longsword) + 1d8 Radiant (automatic from Improved Divine Smite) + 2d8 Radiant (Divine Smite) B) 1d8 Slashing(Longsword) + 1d8 Radiant (automatic from Improved Divine Smite) + 3d8 Radiant (Divine Smite, plus 1d8 from Improved Divine Smite)
Basically, does 1d8 get added to your damage twice if you have Improved Divine Smite? It looks like the text suggests that it does. Sorry if this has been asked before, but the search feature on these forums doesn't work and google didn't turn up anything from here on it.

don't know.
I'm think the intent is a flat +1d8. But that wording leaves something to be desired. |

1d8 slashing(longsword) + 1d8 radiant(Improved Divine Smite) |

My reasoning here is that the "this" in the final sentence seems to refer specifically to the 1D8 radiant damage you get *whenever* you make a weapon attack. |
