#1 axin999 Dec 06, 2014 11:08:37	I have a question about initiative and reaction action.   Initiative was rolled and a character got 20 and is first to act. He decides to cast a spell, but enemy character casts Counterspell. Since counterspell has a casting time of reaction can he do that even if he did not act in this combat.   The same questing is about Cutting words, since it is a reaction can it be used to lover a initiative check of a enemy character, even if the Bard has a lover initiative roll than the enemy.   Thanks
#2 Daydreamer80 Dec 06, 2014 11:14:19	Good questions.   Yes he can cast counterspell.  The initiative order is for when your turn to your main action comes up.    Not when you can take reactions etc.   However, if the pcs/npcs are suprised at the beginning of a conflict then suprise must resolve before reactions can be taken.   so in your scneario , if the 'character' jumps out behind a wall and casts a spell, suprising the pcs, then the wizard cant cast counterspell.    Otherwise they can take reactions per normal, unless under the effect of some sort of debuff.   Initiative decides your turn, reactions decide things you do 'not on your turn generally.-  YOu can take reactions on your turn , but the situations where that comes up are rare.
