Hi there

I was just browsing through the lvl 9 spells, when i read foresight..
Isnt that spell extremely OP when paired with a fighter?
I mean a fighter that have advantage on every attack and saving throw, all while the opponents have disadvantage on any attack made against him, seems almost invincible to me..

Wouldnt a fighter with foresight on him be able to solo almost any cr:20 enemy alone? (i know that he got the spell from a caster and therefore it's in a sense a 2v1 fight, but still)

Compaired to wish, meteor swarm, or true polymorph?

No.

Plus, you need both a fighter and a wizard combined.

That said, it's certainly not weak.

Well, it IS a 9th level spell. And it isn't all-powerful, as long as the DM isn't out of his mind. In a white-room scenario without moving and such, yes, the fighter might be able to take that CR20 monster (depending on the build and the monster) or he might simply be plane shifted instead, because the lack of CHA-save proficiency and a spell DC, which is too high to reliabily succeed even with advantage. Then he's in the elemental plane of fire and let's see how good he can cope with it with his items. ;)

As a comparison let's pair a warlock with Devil Sight next to a barbarian with 3rd level Wolf totem.  The warlock casts darkness and can see in the magical darkness.  The barbarian moves to within 5ft of the enemy.  Now the attacks by the barbarians allies are at advantage.  The attacks by those into the darkness is at disadvantage.  The warlock is at advantage on the attacks and attacks at him are most likely at disadvantage.  If the enemy and barbarian are in the darkness then the barbarian has both advantage (Swing Wild or something like that) and disadvantage (Darkness) and thus rolls only one d20.  The enemy is still at disadvantage, assuming they don't have a sense that bypasses Darkness.

My point, the spell sounds good, but it can be achieved at 3rd level with a barbarian and warlock or some other combination.  The second point, advantage can be negated in several ways, and the same applies with disadvantage, therefore the spell is not nearly as powerful as at first glance.

A couple other things to consider with regards to advantage and disadvantage:  1) Grapple is not an attack roll and may not be affected by the spell, 2) Fog cloud makes the environment heavily obscured for many, 3) A character that is both grappled and prone, or incompacitated is at disadvantage to their attacks, 4) some monsters make attacks at advantage with right conditions, and 5) at least one monster (Tarrasque) causes you to make a save at disadvantage.

Foresight is strong...but it isn't automatically better than wish,  which can restore the dead to life for example, or do a wide variety of powerful effects.

Or true polymorph, or 40d6 meteor swarm, which could wipe out entire armies.

And you only get 1 ninth level spell...if you put it on the fighter, how do YOU plan to make your own saving throws?  Tough choice.
