Hey folks,

I have recently created a 5th Edition group at my house on Wednesdays, and started last week playing a Rogue. I have been wanting to dual-wield, but am kind of foggy on the subject. Can anyone tell me how dual-wielding works, what feats I need, etc, etc? I am getting tired of this being the play of my rogue, "Can I get a backstab?.. No? Okay, *Rolls 1d6 DMG, ends turn*. I just need some more attacks and flavor!

I am also a little unclear on how, proficient, expertise, etc on skills work?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Ok .. couple of questions to help ballance out

What level are you playing at?

Can you give the stats for your character?

What do you mean by dual-wielding?

What weapons are you trying to dual-wield?

and anything else you thing might be of help.

You don't need any feats ... just light weapons.

As a bonus action, you can make an attack with your off-hand weapon, but you do not add your Dexterity modifier to the damage if you hit.

There is a feat you can take that lets you use non-light weapons (it also gives you +1 defense and lets you draw two weapons in the time it normally takes to draw one weapon).

If you multi-class fighter or ranger, you can also take the two-weapon fighting style that lets you add your Dexterity modifier to your bonus action off-hand attack.

Anyone using two light weapons can attack with their off-hand weapon as a bonus action.

You do not add your ability modifier to damage with your off-hand attack unless a class feature grants it.

There is a feat that allows non-light weapons.

You only get one bonus action per round.

Thanks, everyone, for all of the advice I have recieved so quickly!

Let me just clarify to see if I am understanding this correctly;

Gynk the Unseen

Halfling Rogue

Level 2

Dex Modifier +3

Strength Modifier +2

Wielding a Short Sword if main hand, and a Dagger in my off-hand.

I go to swing at an enemy using my Short Sword. I roll 1D20 +2 (Str Mod) +2 (Prof. Bonus) = 1D20 +4 to attack.

Then for damage, I roll 1d6 +2 (Str Mod)

Then I do my second attack using my Dagger in my off-hand. I roll 1D20 +3 (Dex Mod) +2 (Prof. Bonus) = 1D20 +5 to attack.

Then for damage, I roll 1d4.

Does that all look correct?

Also, if I were to sneak attack, I would add the extra 1D6 to only one of those, correct?

Finesse. When making an attack with a finesse
weapon, you use your choice of your Strength or
Dexterity modifier for the attack and damage rolls. You
must use the same modifier for both rolls.

"Shortsword is a finesse weapon, so you would get your Dex mod to that as well."--Incorrect information.
