#1 maceo00 Aug 17, 2014 17:48:37	Looking over the standard languages, the Dwarvish script is also used by Giants, Ogres, Gnomes, Goblinoids, and Orcs.   Has this always been the case in D&D?   What's the background of this script being being used by the other races?
#2 SpedGuy Aug 17, 2014 21:59:05	It may change depending on setting, but I recall that Dwavish was based on the older Giant language, and thus shared a runic alphabet.  Gnomes in turn developed their language from Dwarvish.  Gobliniods and Orcs I think are more likely to have 'adopted' the (written) language of one of their chief enemies rather than inventing a script of their own.
