Long Rest and 1st level characters: A long rest allows you to regain up to half your Hit Dice. In general, fractions are rounded down. So do 1st level characters never regain HD or do you simply always regain at least 1 HD? I'm sure it's the later, but it might be a good idea to address this specifically for the next update. |
| #2The_Planar_ShepardJul 03, 2014 15:17:46 | Well there are quite a few "Round Up" in this edition so I would say round up to 1. |

| #5Emanuele_GallettoJul 03, 2014 16:32:27 | I tweeted Mike Mearls about this; he didn't respond, but I hope he reads it so that they fix the long rest entry. In the final playtest packet it mentioned rounding up (not only at 1st level). |
| #6JiggadiasJul 09, 2014 2:43:54 | Well, physically you can't have half of a Hit Die (unless you broke it) so I automatically assumed the 1 minimum. For clarity it may be good to mention it though. |
| #7Plaguescarred1Jul 09, 2014 3:17:55 | Mikes Marls already answered in a tweet IIRC. You regain 1 HD at level 1 after a long rest despite what the rules to Always Round Down says. There should be a minimum 1 clause and i expect an update at some point. |
| #8pfloydJul 16, 2014 15:46:16 | To that end, the same thing happens with the Wizard's Arcane Recovery. They regain half their level in spell slots per short rest, once per day. First level Wizards get the shaft on that one, unless GM fiat comes into play and allows the "minimum one slot" rule. Anyone else consider that?
Perhaps they should have listed that as an ability that starts at level 2 instead of level 1.
