Long Rest is defined as:
Finishing a long rest restores any expended spell slots

Trance defined: Trance. Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they
So it seems like, since the current system of long rest doesn't even require sleeping, the Trance doesn't seem to do anything, unless we dictate the trance counts as a long rest in 4 hrs, as it appears to. |

Back on topic, there is little or no mechanical benefit to trance. It's there because it's traditionally been an elven trait. |
